Brief~Diving Investigation~ Diving

Investigation ~ Diving

Watty W Weasel has found some wonderful web sites about diving and snorkeling in St Lucia. Visitors will want to know where they can go for good dives and what they can expect to see. Use these sites to help you create really useful but exciting information so you encourage people to take this on. Some may not have done it before and may be a bit hesitant. You also need to educate them about how they must take care not to damage the coral reefs.

Clicking on the icons will take you straight to the web sites. If there is more than one, click on the hyperlink in orange writing.

Make a map of dive sites with good descriptions

This site opens an interactive map of sites in St Lucia.
To read these instructions while looking at the site click here.

  • Read the introduction and click to enlarge to a map of St Lucia.
  • Move the mouse over to find the Anse La Ray region and click on it.
  • Move your mouse over the dive symbols. Look in the area below the map to see the names
  • Make a note of the four names.
  • Look at the Soufriere region too. There are far more here but you might like to look at the interesting names and choose one or two

Don't forget to use the 'Zoom out' button to change regions.

Scroll down below the map and find short descriptions of the dive sites in both regions.

More detailed information about some of the sites is given. It shows diagrams of the steepness of the dives. Make a note of the types of coral and fish which can be seen. Clicking on the Frequently asked questions will give some interesting information including dangerous species!

Mark the chosen sites on a blank map of St Lucia. Using the information from the sites above, write your own description of each site. You want to make your visitors feel they can't possibly miss doing this!

How to present

The map group may have saved a map already. If not click on the mask icon to copy or save one.

  • You could print this map. To enlarge or position it in Word you may need to text wrap it. Add your dive information to the map by hand.
  • Having saved or copied the map you can place it into a word processing document such as Word or into a publishing application such as Publisher or Textease. If you use Word you will need to use Textboxes to add text.

Write some literature to persuade people to try diving if they are new to it.

Watch an underwater video to inspire you to write some wonderful descriptions. Check with your teacher before downloading the video. You might need to download Microsoft Media Player to see it. There is a link on the page.

Make a montage of fish and corals seen when diving. This is a good source. Remember to record and state the source. Clicking on the thumbnails will open up a larger picture for this and the site below.

Provide information about coral reefs

Find out what you can about corals from books at school or go to this site. You can use the pictures to colour if you wish.

Make a poster warning visitors about how people can damage coral reefs.

This is a site about the coral reefs in St Lucia for Secondary School children but it is very useful. Your teacher might need to help you with it. It shows ways in which the coral reef can be damaged. Scroll down the page to where it says "Click here to find out how people can damage coral reefs." Move the mouse over the starfish points.
