Venture>Brief

The Brief

The family have given Freddy Ferret a list of topics to cover. He has jotted down some ideas for presenting it but it is not definite. He wants you to look at them and investigate. You might decide to help on some sections, or all. Perhaps the class should work in groups and each group take a different section. They are all listed in a table below.

To use:

  • Click on the Freddy icon or the title in each section to take you to a new Investigation Page.
  • This will show you the research Watty W Weasel has carried out for each area of investigation.
  • To return to this page use the Brief text link at the top of each page, or the Brief button.
  • Once you have chosen your area you can reach the Investigation Pages by the Investigation button. To return to that section, use the Investigation text link at the top of each page, or the Investigation button.

Information~Maps

Lots of the ideas below need good maps. A collection of maps, either printed and/ or saved in one place will make it easier to choose the best for each activity. One group could prepare these for the other groups --- then there are some other interesting ideas when you have finished.

Presentation
  • Prepare maps for other groups.
  • On completion, display a map and add captions about various places of interest

  • Information about dive areas
  • Photos and information about fish and corals

Information~A Trip to the Rainforest

Once the rainforest covered large areas of St Lucia. Now much of it has disappeared. Prepare a visit there with information about what could be seen.

Presentation

  • Plot the route to the rainforest
  • Create a poster to show the destruction of the rainforest
  • Devise a dance to video showing the same
  • Information about the St Lucian Parrot (Jaquot)
  • Leaflet about rainforests in general

Information~A Trip to the Banana Plantations

Growing and selling bananas is essential to St Lucia. A trip can be arranged to one of the many plantations.

Presentation

  • A plan of a visit to some farms, with a map
  • The history of the banana
  • Growing and transporting bananas
  • Fair Trade and how it helps
  • Record an interview with St Lucian banana farmers

Dip into these. They cover useful information.

Presentation

Use the information to make a list of activities for each month with pictures where possible
