The
purpose of Net- Ferret web ventures
What?
-
Free resources where all the research has been done for you
- Problem
solving activities linked to the National Curriculum and/or QCA
- Incorporates
more than one aspect of the National Curriculum and particularly develops
naturally, a variety of ICT skills
-
Help pages provided for specific ICT skills, such as copy and paste
images from the Internet, create text boxes in Word, etc.
How?
- It
sets an overall problem or outcome broken into smaller task
or
- is
deliberately open ended allowing you to determine the problem
- The
means of solving the tasks by providing links to specific pages within
external web sites or pages within The Venture
-
Pupils (or you!) do not need to spend fruitless hours searching for
information but spend time engaging with it
This
releases you as the teacher to work with the pupils ensuring that they
pass through the various stages of problem solving to reach the ultimate
outcome

Help
them to:
- Gather
and organise the information
- Identify
what is needed from it to complete the task
- Discuss
and generate ideas for presenting
- Make
decisions about it
- Implement
those decisions
- Evaluate
the decisions
- Communicate
by presenting to the chosen audience
- Learn
from the experience both in knowledge gained and ways of thinking
and working
|
|
- It
may form the major part of your work on a NC or QCA area
- It
may compliment your class work and all children work in groups on
sections
- You
may use it to extend some groups who select just one or two of the
areas
- It
can be used to supplement any class work where you dip into it for
ideas and resources.
- It
may be a source for whole class teaching, particularly using the interactive
whiteboard
- It
may simply be a source of good web site addresses!
Webquests
These ventures have been developed on the style of WebQuests.
Do
look at the many valuable resources available to you through the UK version
of webquests. This
page will take you to the National Curriculum subjects but explore
the whole site and its links.
Keeping
up to date and in touch
Very
useful web sites suddenly disappear! That is beyond our control. If you
discover broken links please contact us on freddyferret@btinternet.com
so it can be adapted.
Please
do let us know if you have found this useful, can think of ways toimprove
it or have ideas and resources for others.
We
really would like to know of any results of using this site and if you
are happy to do so, will display examples for others to see. Please send
examples, photographs of displays etc. Contact us first to discuss arrangements.
Many
thanks
The Human Team!
