Water

Access to water varies throughout the country

A bathroom in a holiday lodge

Some buildings have water from taps and a toilet. There might not be water all the time. There was no water in this cistern. It was flushed with water from the small jug.

A tap in a compound

Some have taps outside in the compound. In the afternoon the water is a lot warmer as it has been heated by the sun.

A well at a school

Many village people have to collect water from wells.
Some have a pump.
Some do not.
The water has to be pulled up by hand.

A visitor with bottled water

The visitors bought bottled water.
Children always ask for water bottles- even empty ones.

Why do you think so?

Pulling water in a 'gallon

Water has to be carried. Often it is carried in a large bucket on the head. This child is using a 'gallon' and has made some special wheels to pull it.

Clothes washing in the river

The river is an everyday source for washing but on Sundays it is very busy as school children wash their school clothes. They spread them on the bushes to dry.
